# Formula evaluation: RPX Formula Gate

> RPX Formula Gate is an internal system built by RPX. It evaluates the cosmetic formula candidates our manufacturers send us against one set of criteria, and records which formula was chosen and why. It has been in use since September 2026, starting with RADIDERM Melapase Intensive Cream. The method is the subject of Korean patent application No. 10-2026-0185990.

## Why we built it

When a cosmetic product is developed, the manufacturer usually proposes several formula candidates. Each differs in ingredients, texture, cost and regulatory points to watch.

We built Formula Gate because we did not want to pick one on instinct. Every candidate is evaluated on the same items, and we write down why one was chosen and the others were not. That way we make fewer of the same mistakes on the next product, and we can explain to anyone why a formula was chosen.

## How it works (four steps)

1. **Intake**: We receive formula candidates from the manufacturer. Whatever the format (spreadsheet, PDF or photo), ingredient names are matched to standard names.
2. **Evaluate**: Each candidate is checked against ingredient data, country-by-country restrictions and efficacy papers, scored item by item, and summarized in a report.
3. **Decide**: Candidates are compared side by side. We write down what was chosen, what was dropped, and why. The record is stored so that any later change would show.
4. **Feed back**: After launch, sales and user feedback go back into the evaluation criteria.

## AI, rules and people

- **AI: Reads the documents and gives an opinion.** Claude, by Anthropic, extracts the ingredient list from the manufacturer’s documents and writes item-level opinions in a fixed format. Each evaluation is run three times and the median is used. Every exchange is logged.
- **Rules: Calculate and cross-check.** Scoring and regulatory checks are handled by code against fixed criteria. The same input always gives the same result.
- **People: Decide.** Formulas are created by the manufacturer’s lab. RPX staff decide which one goes forward and record the reason.

## What we evaluate against

- **Ingredients (About 22,000)**: Public cosmetic ingredient data from Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, synced weekly.
- **Restrictions (8 countries)**: Banned and restricted ingredient rules by country, checked alongside the original Korean regulatory notices.
- **Efficacy (Published papers)**: Only papers with a verifiable source are used as evidence for what an ingredient does.
